Fatal Midtown Crash Suspect Bonds Out

The suspect in a fatal weekend car crash bonded out of jail Monday night. Police said 26-year-old Christa Scott was driving north on West Peachtree Street around 4:00 a.m. Saturday when her car collided with Jordan Griner's vehicle, killing him.

Investigators said Scott's blood alcohol level was .229, nearly three times the legal limit, when the accident happened. The 26-year-old was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving and DUI.

Scott was scheduled to appear before a judge on Monday moing, but just moments before the scheduled hearing, she waived her right to a first appearance. Scott's bond was set at $100,000 and she remained at the Fulton County Jail until she posted bond Monday night.

Scott's next court appearance is scheduled for the first week of July.

Scott’s attoey said Monday that her family is devastated, and he offered his condolences for the family of the victim.

The victim in the crash, 24-year-old Jordan Griner, was an inte in Georgia Goveor Sonny Perdue’s office.

Investigators said Griner had been out with friends celebrating the end of their six-month fellowships in the goveor’s office when the crash happened.

Friends Patrick Smith and Brendon Deltoro said Griner insisted on being the designated driver that night.

Smith and Deltoro said Griner dropped them off at their homes, and they expected to see him the next day.

”He dropped me off and I said, ‘Thanks a lot for driving, I really appreciate it. I’ll see you tomorrow,’ said Smith.

But what should have been a night of celebration tued into a night filled with heartache instead.

Griner’s family said they were heartbroken. The 24-year-old was just five blocks from home when he was killed.

”Some lady decides to drink too much and take my baby away from me, said Autumn Griner, Jordan’s mother. ”No, I don’t know how to do that. I don’t know how to plan a funeral for my child.

Griner’s mother said that her son, an Augusta native and University of Georgia graduate, had political aspirations. She said he was planning to marry his longtime sweetheart.

Griner’s family and friends take some comfort in knowing the young man they called a bright star shone to the very end.

Smith said his friend was the kind of guy everyone liked, and he made the world a better place. He added that Griner’s death is a very hard pill to swallow.
