WHAT were the judges thinking?

A bizarre decision in the Ultimate Fighter Championship today has been met with howls of outrage from confused fans.

American Diego Sanchez was awarded a split decision victory over British fighter Ross Pearson in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night in Albuquerque, even though he seemed to lose all three rounds.

The crowd in Sanchez's hometown certainly liked the result, but nobody else could fathom it. Pearson was clearly the better fighter.

The backlash on Twitter, much of it from people who are involved in the sport, was harsh, widespread and inevitable.
