Authorities say a Cave Spring man died when a tree fell on his car while driving during Monday's storms.

They say James Agan was traveling in Floyd County with his son on Old Highway 100 near Cave Spring when the tree fell on his moving car around 5:30 p.m., trapping Agan and his son, Joe. Agan was taken to Floyd Medical Center and later pronounced dead. His son was treated and released from the hospital.

"My nephew couldn't get out of the truck but he used his elbow to break the right side mirror and window to get out to go around and help my brother to get out, but he couldn't get out either. So they had to cut him out," said Kenneth Agan, the victim's brother.  "It's tragic. It's unbelievable. That a million and one chance of being hit by a tree or whatever the odds are and it happened to him."

Agan's family, who call him Larry, say he grew up and lived in Cave Spring all his life, and was well known in the community.  They say he just had open heart surgery, and was 65 years old.

According to family members, Agan leaves behind four children, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
