Facebook's settings that let it track all your online activity

Facebook isn't hiding anything about the plans they have to tailor advertisements based on users' tastes.

The Califoia-based social network recently published a blog post called Bringing People Better Ads which revealed that many Facebook users think that the ads displayed are annoying, distracting or misleading, which was totally a complete surprise to everyone.

Facebook said that the revelation has prompted them to improve ads both on and off the network. They plan to do this by keeping a close eye on people's online activity including tracking frequently visited websites. The data it collects will then be used to display associated ads on your feed. Facebook has also confirmed that the same cookies used for that monitoring will also be used to track people without accounts.

Fortunately, people who don't have an account can limit the extent of the tracking that occurs.

How to Stop Facebook Tracking –

1. Open Facebook in your desktop browser and click the small down arrow in the top right of the page.

2. Click the menu item marked 'Settings”.

3. On the left hand side of the page, click the item labeled 'Ads”.

4. Switch off any options that you don't feel happy about.

Changing these settings will not stop Facebook from assaulting you with ads, but it will limit the tracking capabilities.
