PEMBROKE, Ga. — A former Navy recruit with ties to a militia group that prosecutors say plotted terrorist attacks while operating inside the U.S. military has pleaded guilty to gang activity and drug charges.

Prosecutor Isabel Pauley says Jeffrey Wayne Roberts Jr. was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years of probation. He was indicted Nov. 5 and arrested last week on charges of illegal gang activity and possession of drugs with intent to distribute. He pleaded under the state's first offender statute and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in cases against the alleged militia members.

The indictment names the gang as F.E.A.R., short of Forever Enduring Always Ready, which prosecutors say was led by Army soldiers from nearby Fort Stewart.

Pauley says Roberts provided large quantities of drugs to the group last fall.
