ATLANTA - A judge has sentenced a former Fulton County deputy to 15 years in prison for killing a pimp.

Richard M. Jackson was sentenced Monday in Fulton County Superior Court in the 2006 killing of Allen Griffin. The 44-year-old Jackson was convicted of manslaughter Feb. 2.

Jackson fired several shots after a 17-year-old prostitute he solicited ran away from his vehicle.

The teen ran to tell Griffin, who was on his way to confront Jackson when he was shot. The 22-year-old Griffin also had a gun and Jackson contended he shot him in self-defense.

Jackson resigned from the sheriff's office in 2008 following his indictment.
