Ex-Commissioner Scott Dean Gets 20 Years for Molesting Girl
Scott Dean

A former Columbia County commissioner has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after a jury convicted him of molesting a young girl.

A Superior Court judge sentenced 42-year-old Scott Dean during a hearing Friday in Evans.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that Dean was also sentenced to 20 years on probation after he's released from prison.

Dean's attoey, Pete Theodocion, argued that Dean should receive a lighter sentence because he's a first offender. Under state guidelines, Dean won't be eligible for parole for 18 years.

A jury convicted Dean, who's also a former mayor of Harlem, of exposing himself and inappropriately touching a girl.

Dean denied the charges on the witness stand.
