Elementary school teacher Nancy Hall, son arrested after police discover marijuana grow operation

An elementary school teacher and her son have been arrested for allegedly setting up a marijuana grow operation in the closet of the upstairs bedroom.

Nancy C. Hall, 59, and her adult son, Liam De Jongh-Hall, have been charged with manufacturing marijuana, unlawful marijuana possession and unlawful use of drug paraphealia.

Police seized 22 marijuana plants, three grow lights, two filters and two fans from the home the mother and son share in Nashville, Tennessee.

Authorities also found six grams of processed marijuana, a glass marijuana bong, two smoking pipes and a marijuana grinder, The Tennessean reported.

Nancy Hall said the plants belonged to her and that she used them for personal medicinal use. Authorities did not provide details of any ailments from which she might suffer.

A Metro Schools spokeswoman said Hall will be put on a three-day paid leave of absence while administrators investigate. This absence could be extended as paid or unpaid, the Tennessean reported.

Both Hall and her son have been released from jail after posting $10,500 bond each.

Parents of children taught by Hall have defended her online.

'Nancy Hall is an amazing teacher, my daughters love school because of teachers like her,' one family told WKRN.

'What she does in her spare time, has NEVER affected her ability to expand children's minds and make them excited to lea. Speaking for multiple parents of children at Old Center, we support her.'
