Elderly Athens man fatally shot in burglary

ATHENS, Georgia — Police say a 76-year-old man was fatally shot during a burglary in Athens.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/TpUO2s ) Edward Davidson was shot when he confronted burglars who kicked his front door Monday.

Police were called to the house at 11:57 p.m.

Authorities say Davidson's wife was also home at the time, but did not witness the shooting.

Two men were seen fleeing the house, but detailed descriptions of them were not immediately available.

The newspaper reports Davidson's slaying marked the fifth murder in Athens-Clarke County of 2012.
