Douglas County Mother Tina Sealey Charged With Stealing $6,000
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. -- A Douglas County mother was charged with taking thousands of dollars from a high school football booster club, police said.
Tina Sealey is charged with fraud and illegal use of credit cards. Sealey is the mother of a football player at Douglas County High School and was treasurer of the booster club.
Booster club president Robert Hale-Burrell told Channel 2’s Linda Stouffer he noticed unexplained money transfers from the club account and restaurant charges on the club credit card as far back as June.
"She admitted that she had transferred money from the booster club account to her personal account, but she was just holding the funds until the school needed the money back," said Douglasville police Detective Jay Smith. "They were online transfers. She was able to link those accounts together.
Hale-Burrell said the money would have gone toward purchasing new equipment for the players.
”It breaks our heart because I've known her so long… to have to go through this," said Hale-Burrell.
Hale-Burrell said the booster club is still short the entire $6,250 they raised because they stopped fundraising when the investigation into Sealey began. The club also owes money for the team's new uniforms.
"We want the community to know we still need their true support," said Hale-Burrell.
