Derrick Whittle, Union County Deputy Hurt in Crash Dies

Officials with the Union County Sheriff's Office say Deputy Derrick Whittle was responding to a domestic call involving weapons when he was involved in a single vehicle accident.

A Union County deputy who critically injured in a crash last week has died. Authorities say Deputy Derrick Whittle was responding to a domestic call when the accident happened.

Authorities say the single-car crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. They say Whittle ran off the road and hit a tree.

Whittle was taken to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was first listed in critical condition, but later passed away.
