Deputy Willie Amos Killed In Head-On Crash; Driver Charged

HEARD COUNTY, Ga. -- A pickup truck driver was arrested and charged with following too close after he crashed head-on into a deputy’s patrol car killing the deputy, said a representative for the Georgia State Patrol.

Investigators said Charles Grady Green, 41, of Woodland, Ala., tried to go around another car that had stopped or slowed when his Ford F-150 pickup truck crashed head-on into Heard County Deputy Willie Amos Cammon’s patrol car.

Cammon, 59, of Franklin, died as a result of his injuries. He was traveling on Georgia Highway 100 near Yates Road when the collision happened.

In addition to following too closely, Green was charged with failure to a maintain lane and vehicular homicide in the second degree.
