Dekalb County man Sami Deen faces charges for videotaping children
Prosecutors say a former Georgia Tech employee not only sexually exploited children in his neighborhood, but also would hang out at malls and pools to take pictures of children.
Prosecutors told Channel 2's GA Daily News after what they uncovered about Sami Deen, he doesn't deserve to get out or jail.
Prosecutors said Deen molested and sexually exploited children in his neighborhood near downtown Decatur.
"There were images found on his computer," prosecutor Lee Williams said.
The victims included an 8-year-old girl, her 6-year-old sister and the 8-year-old's best friend.
Prosecutors said those weren't the former Georgia Tech information technology employee's only victims.
"He has pictures of kids at the Y here in town," Williams said.
In court Tuesday, Williams told the judge Deen is obsessed with children's feet and took pictures of them at malls and pools.
Police said they even found lewd images of children from out of the country on Deen's computer.
"He downloads videos of kids he doesn't know, he takes pics of the kids he does know and he touches those children," Williams said.
Prosecutors called Deen a flight risk and asked the judge to keep him locked up during Tuesday's bond hearing.
"We believe he is a danger to the community," Williams said.
The defense countered saying Deen no longer lives in the neighborhood and is getting help.
"He voluntarily enrolled in treatment," defense attoey Scott Key said.
Key said Deen didn't cause any trouble when he was originally out on bond. He said he doesn't go anywhere near computers and he's not a flight risk.
"Mr. Deen has surrendered his passport," Key said.
The defense asked the judge for a $30,000 bond.
The judge didn't give a timetable for when she will make a decision.
