Deivi Polanco: Gwinnett police search for man wanted in kidnapping, rape

Police are searching for a Gwinnett County man they believe kidnapped a woman from outside her apartment and sexually assaulted her.

Channel 2's Kerry Kavanaugh pulled the arrests warrants for Deivi Polanco, 31, on Tuesday. He is wanted on charges of kidnapping, rape, carjacking and false imprisonment.

Police said they believe the suspect knew his alleged victim but they also believe he is very dangerous and they want to track him down.

Police said the alleged incident happened in the early moing hours of April 16.

"She was walking into her apartment and she was stopped by a guy," Detective Shayla LaCosta said.

She said the woman was coming home from work. Police said the man, who was wearing a mask, pushed her back into her car, bound her hands, gagged and blindfolded her. Then, police said, he began to drive.

"She was taken to a location and taken into an apartment where she was assaulted several times throughout the evening," LaCosta said.

Police believe he then took her to another place off Graves Road near Norcross, where he left her.

They said the woman chewed through the ties around her hands and escaped through a window.

"She was on the bottom floor of an apartment. She was able to escape from a window that was open. It was an abandoned apartment," LaCosta said.

Police won't reveal why their investigation led them to Polanco, but they say he and the victim did know each other, moved and they believe he had a motive, which they also won't discuss at this time.

"We're trying to find him to get him behind bars and answer for what he's done," LaCosta said.

On Tuesday, Kavanaugh leaed police had an active warrant for Polcano for aggravated stalking after he violated a temporary restraining order taken by his wife.

Police said he has been arrested in the past for domestic violence.
