Court reporters Tammy Stine, Kimberly Probst and Betty Petersen sentenced after manipulating transcripts to make more money
hree former Cherokee County court reporters were sent to jail after they manipulated court transcripts to try and make more money.
Tammy Stine, Kimberly Probst and Betty Petersen had all expanded the spacing in court transcripts to increase the number of pages transcribed since at least 2006, according to the Cobb County District Attoey's office.
The women also billed the court for pages that did not exist, and for transcripts that were not filed with the court, according to the district attoey.
Georgia law regulates the number of characters per line, and number of lines per page on court transcripts. The law also sets the rate court reporters are paid per page, which was $3.57 per page in 2006.
The women were indicted for racketeering in Dec. 2014, and all three pled guilty.
Stine was sentenced to eight months in jail, followed by eight years on probation.
Probst was sentenced to four months in jail, followed by 10 years on probation.
Petersen was sentenced to six months in jail, followed by 10 years on probation.
All three women were also fined and ordered to pay restitution, some of which had already been paid by the women.
