An arsonist bued a car belonging to a Stockbridge couple Wednesday outside their home while they slept inside with their 1-year-old child.

The Knowles family has lived in their Henry County neighborhood for more than a year, and can't figure out why someone would want to set their cars on fire.

It happened around 1:30 a.m., when someone saturated the interiors of the couple's two cars with gasoline and punctured the gas tanks.

Stay-at-home mom Nicole Knowles said her husband, a full-time student, heard a noise outside their home on Woodland Trace, and looked out to see one of their cars in flames.

The family got out of the house and called for help before the fire spread to the home or ignited the gas tanks. One of the cars bued; the other was damaged and has a strong gasoline odor inside.

Henry County police have assigned an arson investigator to the case.

The family is trying to figure out what to do next since insurance will not replace their vehicles.
