Cochran police arrested James Tripp, 49, of Berryhill-Coody Road, on multiple charges in the death of his niece Wednesday in a two-car wreck, police officials said.

James Tripp is accused of forcing his wife’s car off the road at about 1:50 p.m. on Limestone Road.

His wife, Cindy Tripp, 46, was driving a Chevy Trailblazer with her niece, Tiffany Herman, 22, when James Tripp allegedly ran them off the side of the road, causing the vehicle to roll over, officials said.

Herman was pronounced dead at the scene. Cindy Tripp was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia, where she is in stable condition, officials said.

Police have charged James Tripp with murder, aggravated assault, aggressive driving, DUI, speeding, reckless driving, following too closely, leaving the scene of an accident and criminal damage to property.

He has been denied bond and is in the Bleckley County jail.
