Clayton woman Shanell Turner sentenced for crash that killed mother of 8
The family of a mother of eight killed in a car crash says they were forced to relive the nightmare when a defendant decided to take her case to trial.
Shanell Tuer, 40, faced second-degree vehicular homicide charges in connection with a crash on Tara Boulevard that killed Samika Walker, 32, in December 2013.
Walker's family says Tuer accepted responsibility for causing the crash, and they didn't want her to go to jail because of that.
That all changed when Tuer went to trial. During the trial, the family had to see a surveillance video of their loved one's last moments alive.
"It was horrific," Carla Garmon said about watching video that showed her sister's car rolling over multiple times and crashing into a school bus.
"I didn't see the video. I didn't want to see the video," Maybeth Sims, another sister, said about the video. She walked out of court so she wouldn't see the video during the trial.

During the trial, the family had to see a surveillance video of their loved one's last moments alive.
Walker's family felt like they shouldn't have even been in court going through a trial.
"I got to relive this, because you changed your story," Sims said.
Walker's family forgave Tuer, since she stayed at the scene and took responsibility.
Then Tuer entered a not guilty plea and tued down plea deals that called for no jail time.
"Actually she was offered several plea deals. She decided not to take them," Garmon explained.
So Tuer went to trial. It was a gamble that didn't pay off. A jury convicted her on second-degree vehicular homicide charges.
She asked for first offender status, but the judge denied that.
The judge sentenced her to nine months in jail and three months on probation.
Walker's husband initially didn't want Tuer charged, but says now that has changed.
"When people change stories, people's feelings change," Danterria Walker said, outside the Clayton County courthouse.
Some family members still found it in their hearts to forgive Tuer.
"I forgive her, but for her to take us through this, it's heartbreaking," Sims said.
