Child Crossing Street Killed In Hit-And-Run

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A 9-year-old was killed by a hit-and-run driver in unincorporated Duluth, Gwinnett police said.

A 16-year-old boy was driving on Club Drive on April 19 when the young girl, Gracelle Sanders, of Lawrenceville, attempted to cross the street, Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said. The teen struck the child and drove to a QuickTrip gas station on Beaver Ruin Road, Ritter said.

When the driver reached the QT, he tried to clean the front of the car and later called police to file a false accident report, Ritter said. The driver was charged with hit-and-run, first-degree vehicular homicide and tampering with evidence, among various offenses. He was being held at the Regional Youth Detention Center.
