A Capitol Police officer was grazed on the head by a bullet on Wednesday afteoon in downtown Atlanta. Another officer tracked down one of the suspects and wounded him. Both the officer and the suspect were taken to Grady Hospital.

Police say the shooting took place Wednesday afteoon at Edgewood Avenue and Hilliard Street in downtown Atlanta, just east of the Downtown Connector.

Authorities say preliminary indications are that police received a LoJack alert on a stolen motorcycle, and an officer with the Department of Public Safety’s Capitol Police Services Unit responded to the Edgewood area to help with the search. They say that officer was flagged down by a motorist and when he got out of his car, a gunman opened fire on him.

Investigators say the officer was grazed on the head by the bullet, and he was conscious when he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. The officer's injuries are considered non life-threatening.

According to police, the suspect fled on food and was later found in a nearby alleyway. Police said the suspect showed a gun, and a state trooper fired. The suspect was wounded, and has also been taken to Grady for treatment.

A portion of Interstate 75 near the scene of the shooting was shut down while investigators searched for other suspects.

The ramp from the Downtown Connector to Edgewood Avenue was closed while the search was underway. Traffic in the area was delayed due to the closure and the heavy police activity in the area.

The view from in the air and on the ground showed a heavy police presence in the area around Edgewood and Hilliard, and about a four-block radius around the scene was shut down due to the investigation.

An Atlanta police SWAT team arrested two more men in a nearby building in connection with the shooting.
