Canton resident Joseph Ritchart wins $1 million from lottery

The new year got off to a good start for Canton resident Joseph Ritchart, who won $1 million from the Georgia Lottery in a scratch-off game.

Ritchart, 50, won one of the top prizes in the $200 Million Cash Spectacular, according to a release issued by the Georgia Lottery Corp.

Ritchart, a horse trainer in Cherokee County, bought his winning ticket at Shell Food Mart, located at 2880 Lower Union Hill Road in Canton.

There are 20 tickets worth $1 million in the Cash Spectacular game, and Ritchart is the ninth to collect. Two of the previous winners were from Loganville in Gwinnett County.
