Bloomingdale's really creepy festive idea: ‘Spike your best friend’s egg nog when they’re not looking’

Bloomingdale's made a bit of an error in judgement in their Christmas catalog, adding in some disturbing copy to an image of a man and woman looking fancy in Rebecca Minkoff outfits.

‘Spike your best friend's egg nog when they're not looking,' suggests the ad, showing a man in a suit side-eyeing a woman laughing.

The page was uploaded to Imgur, where it quickly made the rounds on the inteet, attracting accusations of date-rape undertones.

People on Twitter were understandably unimpressed.

The backlash has prompted an apology from Bloomingdale's, who admit that the copy and accompanying picture were ‘inappropriate and in poor taste.'

They tweeted: ‘We heard your feedback about our catalog copy, which was inappropriate and in poor taste. Bloomingdale's sincerely apologizes'

We still don't quite understand how anyone thought this was a good idea.

But hey, this debacle should stop any department store from suggesting drugging your friends over the holidays in the future. We hope.
