Bicyclist Recovering After Being Hit by Car
A DeKalb County man is still recovering from his injuries after being run off the road.
Kyle Williams says he was making his daily trek to work on his bicycle when everything changed.
"If I hadn't been wearing the helmet, my face, my forehead would have taken this damage you see here on the helmet," said Kyle Williams, pointing out his battered helmet.
Still wearing a neck brace, 37-year old Kyle Williams counts himself lucky to be alive after police say he was hit by a car while riding his bike on this stretch of Moreland Avenue in DeKalb County last week.
"I wake up on the curb to this gentleman trying to talk to me asking what my name was? Am I ok?" said Williams.
Williams says he was knocked unconscious. His $1800 bicycle sustained minor damage compared to Williams, who suffered a concussion, a neck injury, a busted lip and scrapes all over his body.
At the scene of the accident, Williams had a hard time remembering what happened and where.
DeKalb police say they only got a vague description of a white car fleeing the area and they say they're not sure if it was a man or woman who was driving.
Williams says he was headed to work seventeen miles away from his Clayton County home. He says he was following all the rules, with safety equipment and high visibility clothing to make himself visible to motorists.
"This was a routine ride for me. I always give cars room to pass in the lane. So I'm done with riding in the streets!" said Williams.
Kyle Williams says he's now sticking with bike trails and for now will be driving to work.
