Police are searching for a suspect after the owner of a Columbus barber shop was gunned down

Authorities say 30-year-old Charlie Artis was found dead on the pavement outside his barber shop Thursday afteoon in the city's first homicide of 2012.

Muscogee County Coroner Bill Thrower tells the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer that Artis died from a gunshot wound to his left side. Police said they were called to Charlie's Barber Shop in an east Columbus shopping center around 3 p.m. and found Artis on the ground outside.

Jeff Jefferson says Artis, who is his cousin, opened the barber shop a couple of years ago after working at the nearby Surgical Cuts Barber Shop.
