Bank Robbery Leads to High-Speed Chase Through Gwinnett, DeKalb Counties
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Police say a high-speed chase through Gwinnett and DeKalb counties ended with the capture of four bank robbery suspects on Friday moing. Investigators say the arrest may not have been possible without the help of a Good Samaritan who was in the right place at the right time.
According to investigators, the four suspects robbed a Wells Fargo Bank at Rockbridge Road and Morrisville Highway in Lilbu, and then took off. Ivy Cromer tells Georgia Newsday he and his dog were sitting in his parked vehicle across the street from the bank when he saw what was happening.
Cromer says he is sick and tired of all of the bank robberies that have happened in the area recently, so he hoped he could make an impact. He says he tipped off police to the robbery, and they were then able to follow the suspects.
Police say they chased the suspects’ vehicle until it crashed at Interstate 285 and East Ponce de Leon Boulevard. That’s where the driver of the suspects’ car lost control, sped up an embankment and crashed over nearby railroad tracks.
Police say the four suspects—three men and one woman-- suffered minor injuries. They were later taken to the DeKalb County Jail.
