UPDATE - The mother whose 3-month-old daughter died in a house fire has also died. The Fulton County Medical Examiner identified the mom as 28-year-old Rhonda Johnson and her daughter as 3-month-old Dionysis Christian.

ATLANTA - Police say an infant was killed and her mother hospitalized with critical injuries in an early moing house fire in northeast Atlanta

Firefighters responded to a call about a fire at a vacant home near the intersection of Donald Lee Hollowell and Paines Avenue around 2 a.m. Thursday

When firefighters arrived, it took them about 20 minutes to get the fire under control. During a search of the vacant property, the found the woman lying on the bathroom floor.

"She had severe bus, but was breathing when she was being transported to hospital," said Atlanta Fire Department Sergeant Cortez Stafford.

She was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where she remains in critical condition.

Firefighters did a second sweep of the home and found the 3 month-old baby.

"It is upsetting to see a victim, especially a child," Stafford said. "I mean, we all have families and we all have children and that affects us."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no identities have been released.
