Authorities Capture Peach County Jail Escapee Damon Lee Ferguson

FORT VALLEY, Ga. - Authorities say a Byron man who escaped from the Peach County jail has been captured after two days.

Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese says 21-year-old Damon Lee Ferguson was caught Friday about half a mile from the jail. Deese says Ferguson had apparently been hiding under a home since his escape around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Fort Valley police officers arrested Ferguson without any incident around 11:45 a.m. Friday.

Ferguson was arrested Oct. 21 was in jail on charges including theft, burglary and failing to register as a sex offender. Deese says Ferguson escaped by jimmying the lock on his holding cell when the booking officer walked away.

Deese says Ferguson now faces an additional charge of escape.
