Atlanta Woman Crystal Cross Alleges Beating From Ga. State Patrol

A 28-year-old woman says she was brutalized by a Georgia State Patrol trooper.

Crystal Cross said she was left with black eyes and a fractured nose after she was yanked from a car by the trooper.

Cross says she was heading to a friend's home in Madison County when she noticed blue lights behind her.

”I thought they were going after another driver, Cross said.

Only when she arrived at her destination did she realize she was the subject of a traffic stop, said Cross.

”He was like, 'Why'd you run? Why'd you run?' I was like, 'Sir, I didn't. I thought you was after the car behind me,’ said Cross. ”He then reached in my car, drug me out by my neck and threw me on the ground and just started hitting me on the ground with his baton and his fist."

Audio from the alleged beating was recording on a cell phone voicemail, Cross said.

FOX 5 contacted the Georgia State Patrol to ask for the trooper's side of the story. We were directed to an incident report, where the trooper stated that the driver "began swinging at me with her hands and ”clawing at me with her fingeails. He stated that that he was "in fear that the driver might possibly damage my eyes."

He goes on to say "I had to strike the driver four to six times before she quit clawing and slapping at my face."

The police narrative also points to some previous run-ins with the law involving family violence and violence against law enforcement. Those charges were discovered after Cross' arrest.

Cross, who suffers from bipolar disorder, acknowledges past troubles, but says she didn't deserve these injuries.

”I don't ever think I can face reality because of what they did to me, said Cross.

Cross is now facing battery, fleeing, obstruction, DUI and failure to dim headlights charges. The only violation she says is valid is for her bright headlights.
