Atlanta School Board Members Settle Lawsuit

ATLANTA - Feuding members of the Atlanta school board have settled a lawsuit over who is in charged of the board.

The Atlanta Joual-Constitution reports that the board will hold a meeting Tuesday to elect new leaders. Under the settlement, Chairman Khaatim Sherrer El and Vice Chairwoman Yolanda Johnson agreed to step down from their leadership positions.

The lawsuit was filed by four members of the nine-person board in late October after months of public bickering over an ongoing investigation into possible cheating in 58 city schools. The lawsuit alleged that El and Johnson were elected leaders of the board illegally.

The district could lose its accreditation with the Southe Association of Colleges and Schools because of the board's squabbling.
