Atlanta Protesters Rally Against Health Care Act

ATLANTA -- A coalition of activists protested against last year’s controversial health care reform act Wednesday moing.

The rally was held in light of the fact that a federal appeals court in Atlanta is hearing arguments on the law, which would force Americans to buy health insurance or face a tax penalty.

President Barack Obama’s administration argues that the law will require everyone to help cover the cost of health care, but opponents call it unconstitutional -- even socialist by some accounts. Georgia is among 26 states that filed a lawsuit against it. Channel 2’s Carol Sbarge attended the "Hands Off My Healthcare" protest against the law at 9:30 a.m.

Activists, including members of the Americans for Prosperity Georgia and the tea party movement, flocked to the federal court building, marching with signs. One sign decorated with stars and stripes proclaimed, ”Freedom?? Not Forced!

”I don’t want them to force me to buy a Chevrolet, or peaches or anything, protester Jerry Shearin told Sbarge.

Protesters urged the court to follow a Florida judge’s ruling against the law in January.
