Atlanta mom Trakeisha Saunders charged with murder of 1-year-old daughter

ATLANTA - Weeks after the death of a 1-year-old girl, Atlanta police have charged a woman with her daughter’s murder after an autopsy showed how the child died.

Members of the Atlanta Police Department’s Fugitive Squad arrested 27-year-old Trakeisha Saunders on October 6 for the murder of Kennedy Johnson.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to reporters on Friday that Kennedy died from blunt force injury to the head and torso.

Atlanta Police responded to an apartment on Alison Court in southwest Atlanta on September 23 after receiving a report of an unresponsive child.

Police found the child in serious condition after the mother told them the girl had fallen.

Medics rushed the girl to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hugh Spalding Hospital, where she died.

Officers took Saunders to the Fulton County Jail on charges of murder and aggravated assault. She is scheduled to appear before a judge for a preliminary hearing on October 21.
