Atlanta Lawyer Michael Shaw Sentenced For Stealing $400,000
ATLANTA - A 37-year-old Mableton attoey was sentenced to 15 months in prison and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to stealing more than $400,000 from an Atlanta law firm.
Michael Shaw was sentenced Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to embezzlement charges in October.
Prosecutors say the attoey
Prosecutors say Shaw regularly performed investigative services for clients himself, but submitted invoices in the name of an investigator who also worked for the firm. They say he also submitted fraudulent tax forms in the name of a vendor between 2003 and 2009.
Authorities say the firm discovered Shaw's misconduct after a client's billing review. Shaw has also been disbarred by the Georgia State Bar.
