Assistant Coach Jack Neace Accused of Beating Up Parent

Fulton County investigators say an assistant youth football coach was arrested after being accused of beating up a parent from an opposing team.

Officers  say the brawl happened after the Brooks Bears of Fayette County won the Super Bowl game last weekend.

A parent for the opposing team questioned coach Jack Neace in the parking lot about sportsmanship, according to authorities.

”The Peachtree City team was upset with the Brooks Bears team because in this final game, they felt the score had been run up. I think the score was something like 52 to 12 and they were upset that it ran that high, said Fayette County Sheriff’s investigator Josh Shelton.

The mother complained to the assistant coach that the Bears had intentionally run up the score against the Peachtree City Chiefs. Neace, according to investigators , tued to the woman’s husband, Trey Smith, and said something to the extent of, ”I can’t shut her up, but I can do something about you," and the fight was on.

”He was hit in the eye, the right eye and he was knocked to the ground. The perpetrator then began to strike him while he was on the ground, said Shelton.

Neace is charged with felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor battery.

A civil lawsuit by the Smith family was filed in Fayette County Court Friday seeking damages against the coach. The lawsuit alleges that the Brooks Bears football organization, as well as the assistant coach, should pay.

”[Neace] claims that he was not the aggressor in this. That family kind of pursued him and made the first move, but that doesn’t jive with the rest of the witnesses’ statements, said Shelton.

The lawsuit also accuses the assistant coach of being intoxicated at the time -- something detectives say they haven’t been able to prove.
