ATLANTA -- Chairman Khaatim Sherrer El has agreed to step down from his position on the Atlanta School Board, Channel 2’s Carol Sbarge has confirmed.

An APS representative told Sbarge that El plans to step down ”soon. The board is setting up a transition team composed of four members. In the next few weeks, they will devise a plan to change the way the board operates. The representative said in the future, the board chair and co-chair will work more collaboratively.

The transition team is set to meet with Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Gov. Nathan Deal to discuss the new plan. Once drafted, a vote on the plan is expected within a few weeks.
