Alpharetta father Sunny Nduka Onuigbo arrested for allegedly beating son with belt
Police arrested Sunny Nduka Onuigbo, 39, Feb. 4 after counselors at his son’s school notified police about suspicious injuries to the child.

An Alpharetta father faces child cruelty charges after police said he beat his 5-year-old son with a belt, leaving welts on his face.

Police arrested Sunny Nduka Onuigbo, 39, on Thursday after counselors at his son’s school, Cogbu Woods Elementary School, notified police about suspicious injuries on the child.

”Our officer observed a large red welt mark across the child’s face, down into the cheekbone area, said Officer George Gordon, spokesman for the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety. ”The child stated his dad became very upset and struck him several times.

Gordon said the child’s parents had kept him home from school for two days before anyone noticed the injury.

”The 5-year-old child had a ruptured blood vessel in one of his eyes, said Gordon. ”This is disturbing to us and we’re going to take immediate action in these types of cases.

Gordon said his department has referred the case to the Division of Children and Family Services for further investigation.

Onuigbo remained in the Fulton County jail as of Wednesday. A woman who answered the door at his home and identified as his wife told local reporters that she had no comment on the incident.

A neighbor told Petchenik she was saddened by the allegation.

”I hope the child is doing good, said Priyal Doshi. ”We are very against child abuse and I hope the father gets a lesson and they take care of the child.
