Alleged DUI Driver, Parents Speak Out
The woman who was allegedly drunk behind the wheel of a car that killed a Georgia goveor’s office inte broke her silence on Thursday, appearing with her family to express their sympathy to the victim’s family.
Christa Scott, 26, spoke to reporters from her attoey’s office on Thursday afteoon. She and both her parents, who were also there, were visibly upset and crying.
Scott’s mother said their family wished to express their deepest sympathies to the family of Jordan Griner, and that was the reason the called the news conference.
”The Griner family has my deepest sympathies for their loss, and will remain in my thoughts and prayers, said Christa, who was crying hysterically throughout the entire press conference.
She added that from everything she had heard, Jordan Griner was an extraordinary person and he was loved by everyone.
Both Scott and her mother read prepared statements. Scott’s mother said that their family had been praying for the Griner family, and would continue to do so.
Police say Scott’s blood alcohol level was .229— almost three times the legal limit early last Saturday moing when she allegedly ran a red light and slammed into the car driven by 24-year-old Jordan Griner. The goveor’s office inte was killed.
Scott had just finished her shift as a waitress at Door 44 in midtown Atlanta when the accident happened. The nightclub says they plan to conduct their own investigation.
In the Atlanta Police Department incident report, the officer wrote that when he got to the accident scene he smelled a faint odor of alcohol coming from Scott. The report states that Scott repeatedly asked if the driver she hit was OK. The report also stated that Scott recorded a .229 on a breathalyzer test.
While Scott awaits her next day in court, friends and family said goodbye Wednesday to the young man she's accused of killing while driving drunk.
Griner was remembered as a young man with a bright future ahead of him during funeral services in Augusta. Griner had plans to run for the senate and marry his longtime girlfriend.
Friends said Griner was the designated driver as he and several of his friends celebrated the end of their six-month fellowships in the goveor's office. Griner had just dropped them off, when police said Scott slammed into Griner's car killing him.
