77-year-old Lois Johnson hit by big rig

A 77-year-old was hit while crossing a street in East Point on Wednesday evening. She is now on life support.

Investigators called it a tragic accident. A FedEx big rig driver was tuing left from Harrison Road onto Virginia Avenue when he hit Lois Johnson, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The tractor-trailer’s front left bumper hit Johnson and the two rear tires ran over her.

The tractor-trailer driver kept going until he received a call that he had hit someone, and he retued to the scene. Troopers said he didn’t see her.

Witnesses said the victim was well-known in the East Point/College Park area, affectionately called ”granny. She is being treated at Grady Hospital.

The driver has not been charged in the crash. Authorities said Johnson was jaywalking.
