73-Year-Old David Mays Arrested in Deadly Southwest Atlanta Shooting
A 73-year-old man has been taken into custody and charged after a fatal shooting outside what appears to be a closed dental office in southwest Atlanta on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers were called around 3:05 p.m. to a location on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW, where they found a man with at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police identified the suspect as David Mays, who now faces counts including murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and is being held at the Fulton County Jail. Authorities have not released the name of the victim.
The incident occurred outside a building that resembles a dental office, with a sign showing “Dr. David Mays Dentist,” though the practice appears to be closed. Neighbors told reporters they were alarmed by the shooting and said violent incidents have been a concern in the neighborhood.
The Atlanta Police homicide unit is continuing its investigation and has not yet disclosed details about what led up to the shooting.
