6 Officers Involved in Gay Bar Raid Fired

ATLANTA, Ga. - Atlanta police say six officers have been fired after an investigation found they lied about what happened during a raid on an Atlanta gay bar.

Police spokesman Carlos Campos says in a statement that the six officers were dismissed Friday "for violating the department's truthfulness policy." Campos says nine other officers were disciplined as a result of the 2009 raid on the Atlanta Eagle. Three more have discipline hearings set for the coming week.

Campos says two other officers accused of lying had already been dismissed as a result of an unrelated inteal investigation and Chief George Tuer ordered that the charges against two others be withdrawn.

A team of lawyers conducted an investigation into the incident and released a report last month saying that at least 10 officers lied.
