30 Deep Gang Members Sought for Bartender Death
There are new details in the standard bar murder are revealing the impact an Atlanta gang is having on crime. Police arrested 17-year-old Jonathan Redding Thursday and say the search for at least three other killers will center on the "30 Deep" gang.
Johnathan Redding is a ruthless killer that never worked alone, according to Atlanta police Det. Anthony Gentile.
"It appears he was on a continuous crime spree," said Gentile.
Gentile, the lead detective in the John Henderson killing, said at least three other people involved in January's robbery-turned murder are still on the run. Gentile said he believes all of the suspects are in a gang called "30 Deep."
Redding's gang membership, Gentile says, is written all over his face -- a tattoo under his right eye reads, "30 Deep."
"We've been able to find they're involved in quite a bit of different criminal activity, pretty much all through out the city of Atlanta," said the detective.
Gentile said 30 Deep was not just involved in the high profile murder at the Standard bar, he said gang members were also responsible for many of the blue jean bandit smash and grabs and the recent rash of flat screen TV thefts out of bars and restaurants.
In addition to the Standard murder, Redding is charged with two other crimes. Investigators believe the three or four people they're looking for were with Redding for those crimes, too.
Gentile said the gang members range in age from teenagers to late 20s. He said usually criminals that young like to talk about what they've done. Gentile said that kind of bragging gets them caught. The detective said this crew doesn't do that -- they're more professional and that's what makes them even scarier.
"It can tell you they're somewhat organized. And they've got an allegiance to one another. There's some loyalty in the streets between them," said Gentile.
Detectives will not say if Redding is talking now that he's in jail. Investigators add, they don't need him to catch the other killers.
