10-year-old girl shocks doctors by giving birth to healthy baby

A 10-year-old girl has given birth to a healthy baby daughter in Colombia, becoming one of the world's youngest mothers ever. The preteen mom is a member of the country's indigenous Wayuu tribe, which is allowed autonomy by the govement to carry out certain cultural practices -- including, apparently, procreating at an astonishingly young age. After arriving at the hospital 39 weeks pregnant and in "enormous pain," the girl delivered her 5 lb. baby via C-section.

The hospital's director told a radio interviewer he'd seen similar cases among Wayuu girls, remarking, "At a time when [the girls] should be playing with dolls, they go to having to take care of a baby. It's shocking."
