Goat man: Myth or true story?

A RECENT discovery of a goat-man hybrid has left residents of Malaysia searching for answers.

Farmer Ibrahim Basir from the Malaysian village of Felda said it was a huge surprise to discover a baby goat with human features.

"I was quite shocked but fascinated too as its face, nose, short legs and even the condition of its soft body seemed like that of a human baby, whereas the light brown fur covering its whole body resembles that of a goat," he told the Metro.

Despite its human features, the goat did not contain an umbilical cord.

The 69-year-old said even though the creature died shortly after birth, he was contacted with numerous offers to buy the carcass, but he opted to pass it onto veterinary authorities.

"We kept the carcass in a polystyrene box filled with ice cubes before taking it to the district veterinary office at around noon yesterday," he said.

The state Veterinary Services Department laboratory is currently investigating the reason behind the goat’s human-looking features.

Agriculture and Agro-based Industry committee chairman Ismail Mohamed said this included exploring the possibility that a human violated the mother goat.

"For now we cannot confirm or deny anything as we have never received such a case before," he toldThe Star.

"We will have to wait for the results and findings to be finalised and that takes somewhere between two weeks and a month."

While the wait for answers continues, many people have made the connection the goat’s resemblance with a faun — a mythological half human-half goat manifestation of forest and animal spirits.
