1 Dead in Auburn Double Shooting; Suspect Shuaid Zaid Omar Hospitalized

Police say two women were shot in Aubu on Monday afteoon, leaving one of the women dead. Investigators say the suspect later tried to take his own life during a standoff with authorities in Suwanee, but he survived.

Police first said the suspect, who has been identified as 29-year-old Shuaid Zaid Omar, had died after shooting himself, but later confirmed that he was alive and being treated at Gwinnett Medical Center.

The double shooting happened at the Parks Mill Apartments in Aubu around 12:30 p.m. Police said both women were taken to the hospital, one by ambulance and the other by helicopter.

Residents at the Parks Mill Apartments told FOX 5’s Denise Dillon that Omar, the father of one of the kids who lives in apartment 22, came to the complex and got into an argument with the woman inside that apartment. Neighbors say he pulled a gun and shot her, and police later confirmed that woman died of her injuries.

According to neighbors, a resident in the apartment downstairs heard the commotion and went upstairs to help her neighbor but was shot when she walked into the apartment. They say the second victim came out of the apartment and said she had been shot before collapsing on the stairs.

Neighbors say the child of the second shooting victim witnessed the incident. When he saw his mother bleeding on the stairs, they say he ran for help. Meanwhile, witnesses say Omar walked past the bleeding woman, went to his car and drove away. He later became involved the standoff with Suwanee police.

Suwanee Police said Omar was involved in a standoff with officers at his mother’s home in Suwanee. They say Omar shot himself, bringing the standoff to an end.

Police have not released the names of the victims. The investigation continues.
