Wrigley pulls caffeinated gum on FDA concerns
There were conces as soon as it was announced, and now Wrigley’s is pulling its new line of caffeinated gum from shelves. This after the FDA expressed conces about caffeine’s effect on children and adolescents. A stick of the gum equals about as much caffeine as half a cup of coffee. Wrigleys will stop making, selling and marketing the gum, which was introduced earlier this month.
“The company’s action demonstrates real leadership and commitment to the public health,”
Michael Taylor, the FDA’s deputy commissioner for foods and veterinary medicine, said in a statement.
