A woman had to have eight inches of her oesophagus surgically removed after she shoved a foot-long spatula down her throat.

Guan Hsuing, 28, was frightened that her throat was closing up after an allergic reaction and tried to ‘widen" it with chopsticks.

When that failed, she tued to a foot-long spatula which she had been using for cooking.

Doctors in Dongguan City had to cut away eight inches of her oesophagus which were damaged beyond repair.

She is now recovering and will leave hospital in days.

A hospital spokesman said, ‘She had tried her fingers, and then the chopsticks, and when all of that didn"t work she had tried the spatula."
