Catching some rays on the beach is one of the few things everyone can enjoy equally, regardless of your wealth.

Sadly this doesn"t seem to be the case in Mexico where some of the country"s beautiful beaches are reportedly reserved for foreigners.

One Mexican woman leat about this the hard way recently after she was led away in handcuffs after relaxing on one of said beaches.

Friends of Laura Alicia Caldero, 26, said security guards were stopping locals from going to the luxurious Playa del Carmen resort in Easte Mexico.

Her friend Marc Paez Chacon said: ‘We told them you were not allowed to privatise the beach and went and sat under the shade of a palm tree. But then security guards suddenly tued up and told us that we had to pay for the use of the palm tree.

‘We thought it was a joke, but when we refused police tued up."

The incident has sparked outrage in Mexico, with some people claiming the group would not have been charged if they were tourists, and that Laura wouldn"t have been arrested if she were not a local.

A police report stated three men opted to pay a 1600 pesos ($104) fine, however one woman refused and instead was arrested – however the report does not specify what the group were being fined for.

Juan Carlos Pereira Escudero, secretary of the Playa del Carmen Council, said that the young Mexican woman was not arrested because she refused to pay a fine, but rather because she ‘assaulted a group of private guards".
