The 23-year-old can be seen in the bizarre CCTV footage walking inside and then walked off with the baby.

Police managed to capture the kidnapper, identified as 23-year-old Yekaterina M., when she confessed to her family what she had done after she got home with the baby.

The baby's real mother, also 23, had been discharged from hospital a few hours earlier after the premature tot needed to stay for further care.

The newbo called Marina was even attached to tubes to ensure that she was getting enough nutrition.

The head of the hospital's paediatrics department in Russia was the one who discovered that the child was missing and immediately informed local police.

They initially suspected that Marina's mother or relatives had sneaked back to take the child, but after looking at video footage they quickly realised it was a stranger.

But before they even started looking they got the call from the kidnapper's family, and when they tued up were able to recover the child and retu it to hospital.

Yekaterina, a medical student, was seen on the video going into the hospital and trying to attract as little tension as possible.

When police tued up, she was reportedly very distressed and apparently had fainted several times.

Police said that she had also posted an image of herself with the new baby on social media networks saying: \"Everything will be cool!\"

Hospital officials have promised to tighten up security and police are investigating, waing that the young woman faces a hefty prison sentence if deemed fit to stand trial.
