Subtle: Gmail Man is seen annoying users with his terse and rude replies when the ethics of scanning people's email for key words is questioned

The battle between Microsoft and upstart tech giant Google has always been hard fought.

And now a new viral video mocking the search giant's Gmail service has surfaced, attacking Google for scanning people's emails for key words in order to target advertising.

Gmail Man - the annoyingly chipper delivery boy - is seen sifting through emails before recommending unhelpful products to disgruntled and outraged users.

... Rival Microsoft is thought to be behind the video, as its products are mentioned throughout

But while Microsoft have kept tight lipped on the not-so-subtle dig at Google, the video is littered with references to the Windows maker's new products.

The blatant references to Microsoft products have led some to believe they are behind the clip.

In one scene, 'Gmail man' is seen walking by a woman and her child.

Enquiring what he is doing reading the mail, Gmail man explains to the little girl that he is just 'skimming' and that, 'Sometimes when a person really loves their Gmail very, very much, the two get together, and an ad is bo.'

Customers who question Gmail man's ethics of snooping through people's email messages are given a blunt 'who cares' or 'it's all business' reply.

Snooping: the video is a dig at Gmail's use of key words in people's emails which then allow the search giant to target advertising

The video mentions Microsoft's new cloud service, Microsoft Office 365, before Gmail man walks into the offices of 'Contoso Ltd.' - a fictional company that, according to ZDNet, the company often uses in demonstrations of its products.
