Traffic chaos as drivers jump from cars to grab mysterious million dollars raining from Dubai skies

THE Dubai dream appeared to come true when a million dollars in cash started raining from the sky in the city centre.

Drivers jumped out of their cars and leapt around trying to catch the 500 dirham ($175) notes that were wafting through the sky.

No one has any idea who or what caused the strange incident, which was captured in an astonishing video, the Express reported.

Motorists in the oil-rich United Arab Emirates city are seen jumping and bending to grab the money as it blew through the Jumeirah area on strong winds for several minutes.

"It was just raining money,” said one local, whose wife pulled over to film the traffic chaos on her mobile phone. "It was 500 AED notes, which is worth quite a lot.

"A lot of people were getting out of their cars to grab this.

"It doesn"t happen every day. Everyone was amazed this was happening.”

The perplexing episode took place at around 3pm on February 11 and no explanation has been found.

Police arrived at the area shortly after the money-grabbing began and moved people along.

Hong Kong saw remarkably similar scenes in December, when a van full of cash worth $5.8 million spilled on to a motorway, The South China Moing Post reported.

Despite the notes clearly tumbling from boxes stored in a security vehicle travelling through the Wan Chai district, drivers and bystanders raced to grab as much as they could.

Two people were later arrested and 27 gave up the cash they had snatched to police after a search was launched to recover the missing money.
