You may think taking a dip in naturals rivers within the Amazon would be an idylic dream.

But stay clear of the river Mayantuyacu which BOILS its victims alive.

The river has long been legend in Peru.

The story goes that Spanish conquistadors killed the last Inca emperor and after the murder, headed into the Amazon rainforest in search of gold.

Upon their retu, they told frightening tales of man eating snakes and a boiling river.

As a PhD student in geophysics at Southe Methodist University, Ruzo wanted to find the river for himself. 'I began asking that question. Could the boiling river exist?, Ruzo said in Ted Talk. 'I asked colleagues from universities, the govement, oil, gas and mining companies, and the answer was a unanimous no'

\"This

This frog did not survive its encounter with the river. 'I've seen all sorts of animals fall in, and what's shocking to me, is the process is pretty much the same,' said Runzo. 'So they fall in and the first thing to go are the eyes. Eyes, apparently, cook very quickly'

Geoscientist Andrés Ruzo was told about this legend by his grandfather and went to explore for himself - believing such a phenomenon was not possible.

He believed it would take a very large amount of geothermal heat to boil even a small river, let alone a four mile stretch. Plus, the Amazon river is far from any active volcanoes.

But Andrés was left stunned when he saw the water boiling with his very own eyes.

The river is 82ft at its widest and 20ft deep. Parts of the river are so hot that any animals that falls in boils instantly.

Ruzo found the river boiled due to fault-fed hot springs.

Speaking to Ted.com about his findings, Ruzo said: "Dipping my hand into the river would give me third-degree bus in less than half a second. Falling in could easily kill me.

As we have hot blood running through our veins and arteries, so, too, the Earth has hot water running through its cracks and faults.”
